Esther in K50m shortfall

Government has expressed confidence that Zambia’s sensational female boxer Esther Phiri will defend her two title as she face Monalisa Sibanda of Zimbabwe.

Esther will be defending her World International Boxing Organization -WIBO and World International Boxing Association -WIBA titles at Lusaka’s Mulungushi International Conference Centre this Friday.

Youth and Sport Minister Chishimba Kambwili has appealed to Zambians to support Esther this Friday.

Kambwili said this when Airtel-Zambia donated 50 million Kwacha towards the fight.

And Airtel-Zambia Head of Corporation, Communications and Government Relations Chabuka Kawesha said his company will continue to work with government in improving sports in the country.

And Exodus Boxing Stables Director of Finance Peter Cottan disclosed that only fifty million Kwacha is now remaining to successfully stage the fight.

National heavyweight champion Francis Galagata Zulu says he is determined to win the title fight against Muhammad Ng’andu of Exodus Stables.

Galagata says he has trained adequately to ensure that he retains his title.

He said this when Railway Systems of Zambia-RSZ donated a cheque worth 12 million kwacha towards his fight this Friday.

Galagata will fight Ng’andu in the supporting bout for the Esther Phiri-Monalisa Sibanda world title fight on Friday.

And RSZ Deputy General Manager for Corporate Affairs Charles Phiri says Zambia is in a spirit of winning, adding that it is important that Galagata maintains the spirit during the fight.

And Galagata’s manager Mike Serreri thanked RSZ for the support.
