Zambia need a point to advance to the quarter finals but the confident French-born trainer Herve Renard has demanded his Copperbullets to go for an outright victory against one of the tournament’s surprise package Equitorial Guinea.
The co-hosts have shoot to the summit of Group C log after impressive wins over Libya and Senegal and now face a stern test against the more attacking and fluid Chipolopolo Boys who are on a mission of honour.
In order to achieve the top spot finish, Renard is likely to make two changes with Francis Kasonde and Chisamba Lungu set to be dropped to the bench though the latter could be moved to his usual position in midfield.
In place of the duo, Davies Nkausu is likely to get the nod ahead of Nyambe Mulenga at right back while star man Rainford Kalaba could drift more centrally and play in the hole behind the lone striker Emmanuel Mayuka with either Chisamba or Felix Katongo slotting into the left flank though Clifford Mulenga or Jonas Sakuwaha look better options on paper.
Isaac Chansa, finally delivered a performance many Chipolopolo faithful have been craving for with two assists including that audacious bicycle that was headed in by Chris Katongo for Zambia’s second equaliser against Libya and should the Orlando Pirates man replicate that for then the likes of Kalaba and Chris will be free to do the damage upfront. Chansa’s side kick Nathan Sinkala is likely to continue in the holding role.
The back four will be completed by Joseph Musonda, Hichani Himonde, Stopilla Sunzu and either Nkausu or Nyambe with Kennedy Mweene in goal.
Zambia has 4 points while the already qualified and money rich Equatorial Guinea are on 6 points. Should Senegal save some pride and beat Libya, then the Chipolopolo Boys will advance even after losing but should Libya stun the West Africans with a win then Renard’s boys could be heading back to Lusaka.
